Indiana Historic Cemeteries

Within the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), its Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology maintains a Cemetery & Burial Ground Registry for all Indiana cemeteries and burial grounds, not just “historic” cemeteries.

How To SHAARD and IHBBC

SHAARD Steps

  1. You can access the database as a guest ("Enter SHAARD as a guest).

  2. Choose Survey Type of "Cemetery Register"

  3. Specify County of "Allen" and Legal Townshop of "Marion".

  4. Click Search and wait because the site is slow.

  5. Look for the Historic Name of "Saint John’s Evangelical Lutheran" with Address of "Wayne Trace".

The survey number for "Saint John’s Evangelical Lutheran" is CR-02-53.

IHBBC Map Steps

  1. Access the Indiana Historic Buildings, Bridges, and Cemeteries (IHBBC) Map.

  2. Wait until the pop-up shows up, which you have to check on. The site is slow.

  3. Go the area just north of the intersection of Wayne Trace with I-469.

  4. Enlarge the view of the area just north of the intersection

  5. Wait! It takes a while before the icons show up.

  6. Click on the triangle labeled CR-02-53. This will give details about the cemetery.
